Vertebrae Product Update – Samsung Support, Google Search, and More

We’re hard at work adding new features and optimizations to our 3D & AR production and content management platform, as well as our 3D & AR players.  The following is an overview of what’s new and how it affects you.

AR Commerce is Now Available on Samsung Browser

Vertebrae worked with Samsung to enable 3D & AR in the Samsung browser on Android, adding to the list of Android browsers that support immersive commerce experiences. Samsung showcased this new functionality live onstage at their global developer conference in San Jose on October 28th.

3D & AR in Google Search

Google announced at its annual I/O developer conference earlier this year that 3D and AR were coming to Search.  At the time, Google CEO Sundar Piachai said, “We are moving from a company that helps you find answers to a company that gets things done.  Our goal is to build a more helpful Google for everyone.”  In this case, “everyone” includes retailers.

What does this look like for retailers?

To start, Google released a collection of searchable 3D assets, including a shark, a tiger, and a scale model of NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover. Anyone can search, for example, “shark” on Google and find a clickable 3D shark file with the ability to tap to AR to view the shark at scale in real life.

Since then, Google has been enabling a handful of pilot retailers with 3D & AR functionality directly in Search results.

How does it work?

While the program is still in beta, Vertebrae has already begun onboarding our retail and brand partners 3D & AR assets to appear in Google Search results. Because our partners already have our 3D & AR player integrated onto their product detail pages, there is no additional development work required to enable visibility in Search. Our platform generates the required meta tags for each 3D asset on a partner’s site. Next, we programmatically convert all 3D assets into the correct file types, which is required for Google Search, while ensuring they are within Google’s specifications of model file size, mesh, vertices limits, and texture requirements.

New Functionality + Features

Vertical Tracking (AKA Put Stuff on Your Wall)

Vertebrae now supports vertical tracking in addition to horizontal tracking on iOS.  For example, shoppers can easily drag a 3D TV from a horizontal plane, such as a media stand, to a vertical plane, like a wall, to determine the best fit and ideal placement.

Animated CTA

In addition to customizing the AR button to match your brand typography and color styles, we recommend including a subtle animation of the AR icon to help encourage shoppers to tap to AR.  See below:
